SMK Seafield Hari Sukan from my point of view
Sunday, April 18, 2010

We were supposed to reach school at 6.30 am, but i reached at 6:15 to find out that almost half of st john members had already arrived. I was told to pin up my fringe, by pin up i mean REALLY pin up, so i swept my fringe upwards and pinned it firmly. It was a pity I hadn't learn how to pin my headgear on my head yet, as it requires skill, so I'm realy grateful to Ming Yii and Jie Hui for helping. We got our name tags in barisan, so thanks again to jie hui for helping me fasten it nicely. I helped her fasten, she helped me. What a nice example of helpfulness. :) Thats what friends are for.

Cprl Ng, Pn Tan, Kelly, Thu Yuen(lance cprl Cher) and Sir Lian (referred to as Ah Lian by the seniors and comp.squad members) arrived ten minutes later, and Cprl Ng inspected our uniform. Kelly was very nice to go around giving everyone a vitamin sso we woudn't faint. We were told to not bite it. After a few minutes, Cprl Ng was like "thats meant for swallowing!" Sook Wei almost gagged while swallowing the vitamin which was bigger, but looked like an M&M (green coloured). Sok Kuan gave us permission to go drink water so i'm happy i won't risk choking on the vitamin.

We practised marching before hari sukan started. It all seemed like a dream (maybe because it was early and kinda dark), but i was wide awake when the drumbeat started. Everything was real now. All our practise, sweat, tiredness, and muscle aches.. Can we win? get what our practise was worth? I was highly alert while marching, my heartbeat was getting faster, sweat was trickling like a river from my forehead, I didn't care. All i cared for, is to do my best. Except for the three mistakes i made (thanks shi hui for reminding), I was quite satisfied with my performance. In the audience, we might look grand, proud to represent our badan beruniform, marching with ease, that was what i thought from a junior's point of view last year. In reality, everyone in our barisan was trying our very best to make all our practise worthwhile. We got some cheers while walking in front of the audience, and those cheers meant alot to me. They were like praises, vanishing my tiredness. So, I continued, hands 90 degrees, and double checked my elbows when I heard Cprl Ng say " your elbows!!!" Then, we came to a stop in the middle of the field, hentaking in the mud, splattering our polished shoes and black pants. The whole thing seemed so fast compared to our raptai in school. After orders for rehatkan diri, Pn Teh gace a short speech. Then a pegawai gave a SUPER LONG speech, ranging from Hari Sukan, Pn Teh's retirement, nyamuk Aedes, H1N1, pupils smoking at a rugby game, praised the kadet polis, scouts and PKR sth, and back to rasmi hari sukan. *phew* and all the time we were standing uinder the sun, sweat trickling, muscles aching, and he talked about what seemed 20 mins to me. (no offence pegawai but please keep your speech shorter next time..) Some people fainted in barisan, and, according to my friends most of them were from Red house. I'm so thankful i had that vitamin from Kelly..

After barisan, we were briefed by the OEs on our checkpoints,( there were checkpoints 1-5, ronda, stall and base)I helped the ronda team . There were two casualty with foot cramps. I was stupid enough to ask the seniors what happened to a person with foot cramp. I have never seen anyone with foot cramp before, i thought it was sprain .. whoops.. sorry seniors, that won't happen again.

10.30am, time to switch my checkpoint to checkpoint 5. I went there with Dinesh, a junior who is very semangat by wearing this year's OUG shirt. Our leader was Amelia. Only 3 cases happened there, so I won't go into the details. For breaktime I went to our st john stall and bought a root beer float. It was excellent. Nothing better than cool ice cream on a hot day.

After our shift ended, it was tim to announce the winners of perbarisan. First, scouts (as last year), second, cadet polis and i didn't hear the third one. But we were not mentioned. I was disapointed. I know my marching isn't good but i had hoped that we could win. I felt sad amidst cheers from the scouts behind us. We walked back to base with heavy footsteps. I felt sorry to dissapoint my seniors, especially those who are leaving school next year. the scene was very emotional as they sobbed, I felt my eyes sting and became blurry with tears. Nee Kee was nice to come and told us that we did well even though they were celebrating. Such a nice friend..hard to come by. Anyway, we did our best. I hope we get to win next year. I really hope for that. We are one team, one heart. That was all it mattered on that day.
