'A day without spectacles' ..SJAM 6th Area First Aid and Home Nursing Competition 29-1-11

I woke up at 4.30 and went to Kelly's houise by 5, lugging the things i have to bring. Today is St John Ambulance Malaysia's 6th Area Competition. Held in Seafield. Different divisions are joining in this competition, including Sri Kembangan, USJ 13 and us, the Seafield team.
The first thing we did was to put in our contact lenses. After 15 minutes of jabbing my eyes, the contact lenses finally went in. I blinked and saw..me. Without my purple specs. Wow. I honestly think contact lenses are magical. If you're thinking about getting one, GET IT. Its really nice to not push or clean your specs. **FLASHBACK** yesterday was our first time wearing contact lenses. And Kelly taught us how to put our contacts. While we spent like 15-20 mins wearing them. We weer Kelly's amusement for that night, as she kept laughing at how funny we looked. I agree, we looked really funny. Imagine 5 girls in front of a mirror, one hand holding a contact lens while the other pulled at the eyelids. Funny, eh?
**BACK TO REALITY** Next was to tie our hair. Our 'hairdressers' were Connie and Pn.Tan. They are amazing. I have never had my hair tied in such a firm and nice bun. And then we put the hair nets, with Cpl Ng telling us how much it resembles spider webs. And Pn Tan telling him to shut up. We studied while getting our hair tied.. With Cpl Ng bullying Vei Lynn's Mashi. And if I'm not mistaken they said something about koalas..
And then we walked to schoo. Went into the 'quarantine room' for NCs. Our team is NCC. Which is Nursing Cadet, (group)C. The 2 other groups were NCA and NCB. The 2 other teams were already there. Changed into our uniforms, helped by Elaine and Amelia. Twas time for uniform checking. We went out, walking like penguins and got scolded. :P We falled in and had our uniforms checked.
After that, it was time for short case. The casualty was Seng Hou who had fake injuries all over him.. I saw fake blood and bruises. The bruises look really real.. They finished shortcase just in time.
Then, we went to the basketball court for kawad. Their kawad was awesome,and the judge is really nice as he gave them advice on how to improve..
Lastly, we went for home nursing. The case was quite hard but they somehow managed to finish it and did a good job. Me? I was the person walking here and there. The very funny one.. Watching Twilight and New Moon. LOL.
We went back to the quarantine room. To wait. Wait to be released. The waiting took, like half an hour.. and we played a game. And talked about our mistakes. I suggested to do some silent praying, as it always calms me down. On the plus side, each and every one of us are joining the school's Buddhist Society, so they get what I mean. Except for the fact that Wan Ying and Jie Hui slept the second we closed our eyes, and Pei Er started chanting. LOUD. So thank you to Vei Lynn for staying in that position with me before Pei Er cracks up and wakes the two sleepyheads. And somehow, Wan Ying woke up and looked as though she'd had morphine..or caffeine.. hyper, and very awakee.. Wan Ying and Pei Er started one of their karaoke sessions, singing some random chinese songs. We were like =.=''.. THen, they even started singing 'Touch My Hand' to get me in the mood but i hadn't the mood to sing. Next, they sang some dramatic chinese song. And me and Vei Lynn were like 'we don't know these freaks..' and edged our chairs away. Sergeant Lam appeared and told us that we..were.. FREE!! :DD And that we had to be in the school hall by 12.
We calmly sat down at a row of chairs and looked at the programme. Then, Cpl Ng went onstage and, what seems to be like an hour later, the winners of footdrill and uniform checking were announced. Which is, NCC. US! I will never forget that second, where my heart stood still. Like it'd been clamped by a hand, and suddenly released. Adrenaline rush? That might be how it feels like.. We went onstage to get our prizes. The next prize was for shortcase. Aaaand.. 'The winner is.. N.C..C!!! OH WOW! You should've heard the tepuk kommandos by our seniors. I think they'd have revived the ears of a deaf person. I could feel my heart beating loudly.. It practically pounded.. My smile started from the corners of my mouth and couldn't stop.. I was glad, so glad. For everything in the world. THe last prize was for home nursing. Of course, we didn't dare to hope for that prize. But the outcome was.. 'The winners of home nursing are the.. N..C..C!!! OHMYHECK. We. Won?! We.. WON. I looked at our squad. They stood up and i followed suit, my heart bursting with joy. I smiled from my heart. That feeling is the best feeling ever. Like when you've been saved from the clutches of death. By an angel with the purest wings and halo. Oooh.. WE recieved the trophy and then, the overall champion trophy. :) When we sat down, i shed a few drop of tears. This is the first time tears of joy have seeped out. Our NA team, team NAB had also won. AND we get to go to the state comp together! :DD This is seriously one of the BEST DAYS EVER!
After helping the organising committee to clean up, we went to McD to have lunch as a celebration. The day ended with us getting wet in the rain, but happy nonetheless.. =)
